The town of Metković is the second largest town in Dubrovnik-Neretva county and is on the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina, some twenty kilometres from the Adriatic Sea. Together with its inclu­sive settlements of Vid, Prud, Dubravica and Glušce, it cov­ers some 51 square kilometres. According to the census of 2001, there were 15384 inhab­itants, of whom 96,42% were Croatian, 2,11% were Serbian, and 1,47% other nationalities. Population density is ap­proximately 300 per square ki­lometre.
